The Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development has announced the non-cooperative open design competition of ideas and develop a lighting concept for the Berlin metropolitan railway bridges in the City West.

The competition is aimed at lighting designers, though cooperation with artists, designers, architects and landscape architects is possible and desirable.

It is a lighting plan be developed by the city eliminated the structural disadvantages of the S-Bahn as dark, dirty rooms and passages, and fear the characteristics of the listed bridge architecture can be experienced.

Mission is to enhance the tunnel spaces as part of the public space to incorporate them into their environment and to mitigate its barrier effect. It is envisaged that the lighting concept unfolds with a compelling central idea of artistic brilliance and a national example holds in the tourist guide books collection. With an attractive design of the tunnel areas, an increase of visitors in the Ku’damm side streets and a further appreciation of shops and dining facilities is expected.

For a total of nine bridges and tunnels between the rooms Hertzallee at the station Zoologischer Garten and the Leibnitz Street in the West’s task in the competitive process, under the motto “string of pearls of light” a comprehensive lighting design to be developed. In addition, for three of the bridges near realization lighting solutions as well work out the overall approach.
