Digital Dawn is an innovative electroluminescent light-sensitive fabric, inspired by the phenomenon of photosynthesis.

We remain in the field of smart materials with this innovative product, I hope as interesting as the cement thermochromic Solid Poetry that has sparked so much.

The project was developed by Rachel Wingfield and Mathias Gmachl, the London studio Loop.Ph. This particular tent was made from electroluminescent fabric. As mentioned in the post on the concrete thermochromic smart materials have the ability, depending on the input, to change its structure, shape or color, just as in the case of Digital Dawn.

The device collects natural light during the day and convert it into electricity to be allocated during the night, the fabric printed with electronic display special pigments that play a nice bright floral pattern.

The system integrates a series of photocells to sense the changing light conditions of the surrounding environment, resulting in the activation of the sensitive surface. In conditions of high brightness, the system is activated only slightly, while in low light conditions, the device turns on gradually revealing all the texture floral and emitting a diffused light and uniform.

The whole system is autonomous, efficient, safe and provides significant energy savings especially if combined with photovoltaic panels for solar energy recovery, thus giving life to a totally eco-friendly.

For those wishing to see him live in London and maybe you can find it in permenente collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum. Of course the reasons are customizable and through the screen printing systems can reproduce any design or text. All electroluminescent devices are powered by low voltage and have a life span of tens of thousands of hours without requiring virtually no maintenance!
