Flexible seat

Simple but the impact is the chair of the designer Wu Yu-Ying winner of Red Dot Award 2009.

The inspiration came to the designer looking under the microscope a small section of tree bark cambium. Wu Yu-Ying is so able to discover the heart of this tree and the wonderful game of cells of different size and shape impossible to perceive with the naked eye.

Thus was born Chair Breathing, sitting in a latex foam density control. The design of cells previously observed under the microscope was transferred to the seat in the form of 3D textures in different shapes and sizes.

With density controlled (softer towards the top end and more compact towards the heart and the base) can be wrapped in this cube that is modeled under the weight of our body, turning the ends of the cube comfortable armrests. A prototype which has attracted the attention of many manufacturers of furnishings and probably will also find that short the market.

What I like most about this session is the way it was dealt with latex foam, at last not covered by fabric or other materials or paints. Enhanced by using a pure 3D textures that give a nice addition to aesthetic game guarantees a good comfort with various levels of density that exclude the use of internal elements or structures to support the body properly. A session of one material and sustainable light. Too bad the latex begins to deteriorate after some time, but probably they will be developing a higher performance material.

The final effect looks good to me. What do you think?
