In Reykjavik there is a new address which should awaken your own curiosity. It’s called The Armoury (Icelandic VOPNABÚRIÐ) and is the new concept store definition launched by Australian designer Srul Recht. A cross shape, that of Recht, the first assistant to Alexander McQueen, and freelance obsessed with video search and installations.
Housed in an old dock away from the glossy shopping addresses, The Armoury has been set up focusing on low cost materials and recycled objects. Sale, a collection of becoming “non-products”, objects or scraps that the same Recht recover for turning abandoned factories or still in production then reassemble according to personal creativity. Also managed the color palette in shades of cream and chocolate pictures, which summarizes the space: the hot iron from rust, cardboard honeycomb for the tables, to pine raw exhibitors.
